Spring Picnic

In contemporary usage, a picnic can be defined simply as a pleasure excursion at which a meal is eaten outdoors (al fresco or en plein air), ideally taking place in a beautiful landscape such as a park, beside a lake or with an interesting view and possibly at a public event such as before an open air theater performance, and usually in summer - this time in the spring. 

A beautiful day in a field near our home. The kiddies were excited to show me where they go running with mommy. We saw the Strassenbahn and the castle where we go to the playground. A kind older man smiled at us adults but was more interested in speaking with Isabella and Henry. He told us he had 32 grandchildren and left us with the message "Kinder sind eine Freude" (children are a joy). We agree!

Happy Easter

Easter in Germany is different than in North America. Somehow it takes on a greater importance in everyone's lives because you get Friday and Monday off. There are Easter markets; eggs adorning trees and fountains in town squares. Wild white, yellow and purple crocus growing along the roads and under trees are replaced by tulips. Spring comes earlier here on the Bergstrasse where we now live.

Yesterday we took a pre-Easter drive through the Odenwald to find an Easter market in Ober-Ostern (Upper Easter). When we arrived, the very small Easter market was coming to an end but we were able to see an Easter bunny that was placed in the Guinness Book of World Records in 1998 and buy a crepe. In any case, it was a beautiful drive.

I like to stream BYUTV talks while I workout (simultaneous mental spiritual inspiration seems to double the effect of the workout's endorphin release).

While I usually only share links on my personal blog, this talk is worthy of a regular revisit, and I hope to find it again someday when I'm reading blog archives. I'd recommend it not only to parents, but for anyone looking to live a more deliberate life.

The Crete Aquarium

One of the activities we enjoyed on our vacation to Crete was a trip to the island's aquarium Babies love fishies!

We love to see the temple

We were able to go to the temple when I went for some work meetings in Frankfurt. It was wonderful to also go to a ward on Sunday and see members I knew from my mission. We thought of Oma and Opa as we took pictures in the same places we have seen pictures of them with their missionaries.
